The Cross River Retreat

A stunning house sitting in the natural Mountain Ash and Manna gum forests at the foot of Mount Buller. This house has one of the best forest outlooks that you will experience in the Alpine region, across the treetops and down to the little stream at the base of the property.

The ‘Cross River’ is the name given to the natural stream 100m west of the property (the access track crossing) by our young children as they played in the shallows of the ford crossing in Summer. We have referred to this stream and this property by this name ever since.

This unique building was built in Melbourne in six sections (modules) and then transported to its current position, and completed within four weeks of landing the modules. It uses natural materials, stone, timber and concrete bench tops to give a high end finish while maintaining character and charm and hints of the old cattlemen’s huts across the surrounding alpine area.

Cross River North

This has an open plan living area to the ground level, three bedrooms and two bathrooms to the first floor and a loft space for a children’s movie retreat or to accommodate extra guests.

The light-filled house has a wood fireplace and hydronic heating, to keep you snug and warm in winter. This house is equally suited to couples, multiple families or large groups of friends.

Cross River South

Cross River South sits to the south of the Northern section of the building and has a great outlook to the forest tree tops beyond from the living area deck.

This 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment, can be used together with cross river North or as a standalone completely separately rented apartment. After a day on the ski slopes or a hard workout mountain biking some of Australia’s best trails, relax by the fireplace  or immerse yourself in master bedroom spa, with an amazing forest view.
